Multipoint Deflection Analysis using Non-Contact Image-Based System

Ranvijay Singh, R.K Shukla

Abstract

Abstract: In this paper, the experimental study proposes a non‐contact image‐based system for multipoint deflection measurement through image processing based on a low‐cost consumer‐grade camera. Deflection monitoring is one alternative method that can become the indicators of bridge feasibility since this method is easy, effective, and can be used for multi-temporal application. The objective of this study is to determine the deflection of simply supported beam of span 1.2 m using non‐ contact image‐based system and dial gauge. The results indicate that the system provides valuable information about deflection up to millimeter accuracy and gives more accurate results in comparison with dial gauge. Therefore, same concept can be applied in bridge structural health monitoring (SHM) system to measure deflection in mm accuracy.
