Abstract

With the growing concerns of environmental condition and energy resources, the alternate fuel like biodiesel is the best promising fuel. In this paper the physico-chemical properties has been determined of two different bio-diesel blends (1)Waste cooking oil(WCO) with diesel  (2) butanol with diesel. The waste cooking oils are subjected to a chemical process called transesterification to produce the WCO biodiesel and then blended with diesel. The steps required for production of waste cooking oil bio-diesel are: Feedstock pre-treatment, determination and treatment of free fatty acids, reactions and product purification In case of butanol, it is easily blended with diesel by the action of vigorously shaking. The blends were prepared on the basis of percentage by volume, B10/ WCD10 (10% Butanol/ WCD and 90% Diesel), B20/ WCD20 (20% Butanol/ WCO and 80% Diesel) and B30/ WCD30 (30% Butanol/ WCO and 70% Diesel). Experiments and tests were conducted for physico-chemical properties of blends-fuel density, calorific value, flash point, pour point, kinematic viscosity. A comparison is made between the different bio-diesel blends. The WCD blends have the better results of density, high calorific value, flash point and pour point as compared with the butanol blends, but butanol blends have better kinematic viscosity as WCD blends have high kinematic viscosity.
