Research Paper on Design and Analysis of an Anti-roll Bar

An anti-roll bar is a component of many automobile suspensions that aids in reducing body roll during fast cornering or over road irregularities. It connects opposite wheels (left/right) via short lever arms linked by a torsion spring. An anti-roll bar is part of an automobile suspension system which limits the body roll angle of the vehicles. It is a U-shaped metal bar that connects opposite wheels together through short lever arms and is clamped to the vehicle chassis with rubber bushes. Due to the generally stiffer suspension and acceptance of body roll, anti-roll bars were uncommon on pre-war cars. However, beginning in the 1950s, anti-roll bars were more commonly installed in production cars, particularly those with softer coil spring suspension. An anti-sway or anti-roll bar is designed to force each side of the vehicle to lower or raise to similar heights in order to reduce the vehicle’s sideways tilting (roll) on curves, sharp corners, or large bumps. Anti-roll bar design changes are quite common at various stages of vehicle production, and each change necessitates a design analysis. The objective of this paper is to design and study the effect of clamping position on the anti-roll bar of the vehicle.References
